How it works
Everything you need to know about buying, selling, hiring and posting on Akhdar.
The basics
What is Akhdar?
Akhdar (أخضر, Arabic for "green") is a free online marketplace and classifieds board for the Muslim community. Muslims use it to buy and sell items, hire each other for jobs and gigs, offer professional services, find housing and roommates, promote Muslim-owned businesses and share community events.
Is Akhdar free to use?
Yes. Browsing, posting listings and messaging other members are all free. Akhdar does not take a cut of sales; buyers and sellers pay each other directly.
How is Akhdar different from Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace?
Akhdar is built for Muslims. Every listing must follow halal community guidelines (no alcohol, pork, gambling, riba-based offers or other haram goods and services), listings can be marked sisters only or brothers only, there is a directory of Muslim-owned businesses, and a community board for masjid events and classes. Messaging is private and your email address is never shown.
Who can join?
Anyone who agrees to follow the community guidelines can sign up with an email address. The marketplace is built by and for Muslims, and everyone is expected to deal with honesty and good character (akhlaq).
How do I post a listing?
Choose Post listing, sign in with the link we email you, pick a category, add a title, description, price, location and photos, then publish. Listings stay live for 30 days and can be renewed for free.
How do buyers and sellers contact each other?
Through private messages on Akhdar. You get an email when someone messages you, and you reply from your inbox. Sellers can optionally show a phone number to signed-in members.
What does halal business mean here?
Trade that is lawful and honest: describe items truthfully, disclose defects, honor agreements, avoid interest (riba), deception (gharar) and haram goods, and treat each other with respect. Listings that break these principles are removed.
How do I stay safe when buying or selling?
Meet in a public place such as a masjid parking lot during daylight, inspect items before paying, never send money by wire transfer, gift card or crypto to someone you have not met, and report suspicious listings. See the safety tips page for more.
For Sale
How do I sell something on Akhdar?
Sign in with your email, choose Post a listing, pick the For Sale subcategory, add clear photos, an honest description and your price. Buyers message you through Akhdar and you meet locally to complete the sale.
Does Akhdar charge fees to buy or sell?
No. Posting and browsing listings is free, and payment happens directly between buyer and seller. Akhdar never holds your money.
What items are not allowed?
Anything haram or illegal: alcohol, pork products, gambling products, drugs, weapons sold illegally, counterfeit goods, and interest-based (riba) financial products. See the community guidelines for the full list.
Services
How do I find a Muslim service provider near me?
Open Services, choose a subcategory such as Home Repair or Quran & Arabic Tutoring, then filter by your city. Each listing shows the provider's rate, service area and a way to message them directly.
Can I find sisters-only or brothers-only services?
Yes. Providers can mark a listing as sisters only or brothers only, which is common for tutoring, beauty, fitness and home visits. Use the audience filter on any category page.
Does Akhdar verify service providers?
Akhdar does not license or background-check providers. Ask for references, check licenses and insurance for regulated trades, agree on scope and price in writing, and report anything suspicious.
Jobs
How do I hire Muslims on Akhdar?
Post a job listing with the role, pay, schedule and location. Qualified members message you through Akhdar so you can review candidates, and you can mark the job filled when you hire.
Are there remote jobs for Muslims?
Yes. Employers can mark a job as remote. Filter any jobs page by Remote to see openings you can do from anywhere.
What jobs are allowed?
Any lawful, halal job. Roles centered on alcohol, pork, gambling, interest-based lending or other haram activities are not allowed.
Gigs
What is a gig on Akhdar?
A gig is short-term paid work, like helping someone move, staffing an Eid event, translating a document or designing a flyer. Post what you need and what you will pay, or browse gigs to earn extra income.
How do gig workers get paid?
Payment is arranged directly between the poster and the worker. Agree on the price and scope before starting, and avoid paying or accepting large amounts upfront.
Housing
How do I find a Muslim roommate?
Open Housing, then Rooms & Roommates, and filter by your city. Many listings are marked sisters only or brothers only so you can find a compatible halal living arrangement.
Can I list a home for sale?
Yes. Use Homes for Sale. You can mention whether you are open to halal financing buyers or owner financing without interest.
How do I avoid rental scams?
Always see the property in person, never wire a deposit before meeting the landlord and signing a lease, and be cautious of prices far below market. Report suspicious listings.
Business
How do I list my Muslim-owned business?
Post a listing in Business, then Muslim-Owned Businesses. Describe what you offer, where you serve and how to reach you. Your listing appears on the business page and in your city.
Can I find a halal business partner or investor?
Yes, in Partners & Investors. Partnerships should be structured on halal terms such as musharakah or mudarabah, with shared profit and loss rather than guaranteed returns.
Are investment listings checked by Akhdar?
No. Do your own due diligence, get agreements in writing, consult a qualified scholar and professional, and never send money to someone you have not verified.
Community
Can masjids and Islamic centers post on Akhdar?
Yes. Masjids, MSAs and Muslim nonprofits can post events, classes, volunteer needs and announcements for free in Community.
Is fundraising allowed?
Only for registered organizations with clear details on how funds are used. Personal donation requests are not allowed to protect members from scams.
Seeking Work
How do I get hired through Akhdar?
Post a Seeking Work listing with your skills, experience, availability and the kind of role you want. Employers can message you directly. Do not include sensitive personal information in the public text.
